Hello (hypothetical) readers.... This is the first time I have ever written a blog; not much into diaries in the past. I guess that I am more of a reader and technical writer than a show-my-closet-to-the-world type. So I hope that this poor offering doesn't totally blow! We will see.... First, an intro: I am a 47 year old male, living in Halifax Canada. I am a medical professional, academic, taking a masters in health informatics, married and in love. We have a great 13 year old son. I surf, snowboard (with consequences) and listen to music that is way too old. I like my reading to be either non-fiction (currently reading Heat: how to stop the planet from burning) or consumable no-consequence fun stuff (alternating between good sci fi like William Gibson and great mystery like Ian Rankin). Over the last few months I have had some time away from work (one of those snowboarding consequences...). At one point it seemed that I might not make it back to work, and I began to investigate the idea of e-commerce to bring some sort of income into the house. Out of this came a website that offers online scheduling free of charge to users. At about the same time as the website was ready for publication, it became obvious that I was going to recover and return to work, so the project got shelved for a month or two in celebration (really... I was delighted... there is only so much daytime TV you can consume before going completely nuts!). Recently, I came back to the project as a hobby; I thought I might be able to demonstrate a new (to me at least) economic model in which e-commerce could fuel funding for ecological projects. If you are interested, hypothetical reader (HR), you can see the site at www.BigGreenSchedule.com (this is not intended to be an ad disguised as a blog....really!) I found GreenBin as I was searching for ecological news... the site seems to be small, but more suited to my tastes than other social networking sites. So I joined, and decided to start a blog that describes my successes and challenges in getting BigGreenSchedule.Com off the ground. Just in case you haven't realized it yet, HR, my skill set re: web design and e-commerce is, well, still being developed. The site that I am developing is very much a 'cottage industry' website.... no frills, kind of corny, and one or two clunks in the code... I don't know if that will be an issue to it's usability. Anyway... that is probably enough for now. Next entry will talk about my anxieties related to the site, and my plans / rationalizations regarding them. Write me if you read this! I would love to hear feedback.
