On Wednesday November 28, 2007 EJF went to the Designer Forum in Nottingham. This is an event that brings together both design students and guest speakers of the industry to discuss some of the pressing topics. EJF presented the film White Gold: The True Cost of Cotton, an award winning documentary which portrays the impact the cotton industry has had on communities and the environment in Uzbekistan. Forced child labour, human rights violations, excessive pesticide use, the draining of an ocean and severe poverty are amongst the many impacts this industry has had on these communities. The attendance at the Designer Forum, brought awareness to the leaders of tomorrow's fashion industry giving them greater insight into how to choose their cotton carefully. Link to the website to watch the film for free and learn on what you can do to make a change. Link: http://www.ejfoundation.org/page141.html
